F1 grid penalty
What a grid penalty means, when it escalates, and every one on record.
A number of places dropped on the starting grid of the next race - commonly for power-unit or gearbox component changes, or a penalty carried across the weekend.
- When it escalates
- If the drop is bigger than the available grid slots, the driver simply starts from the back of the grid.
