- Stewards' reasoning
- The Stewards reviewed video and in-car video evidence. BOR attempted to overtake SAI on the inside of Turn 2. BOR did not have his front axle alongside SAI's mirror prior to the apex. Although he was close to the required position at the apex, BOR did not maintain the inside line and moved towards SAI, who had left sufficient space. Contact then occurred between BOR's right front tyre and the left side of SAI's car. The Stewards considered that BOR was not in full control of the overtaking manoeuvre and was wholly to blame for the collision. The Stewards note that the incident occurred shortly after the restart. However, the circumstances normally associated with a “first-lap” (restart) incident were not present. The Stewards therefore did not consider it appropriate to apply the more lenient approach normally taken to “first-lap” (restart) incidents. Accordingly, the Stewards determine that BOR caused the collision and impose the standard penalty.
